The Simpsons
“The Simpson’s” is an American television program that is an animated comedy, created by Matt Groening. The comedy takes place in the fake town of Springfield. It started on December 17, 1989 and so far 420 episodes have aired over 19 seasons. There’s a 20 season in production.
The television show “The Simpson’s” was originally shown as short shows on “The Tracy Ullman Show“. Then Fox decided to give them their own show in 1989. Now the series are present in over 120 countries. “The Simpson’s” is registered two times in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest animated series in the television history. There’s also a Film based on the show “The Simpson’s Movie” it was released in 2007.
Matt Groening is the creator of the Simpson’s. He was born on February 15, 1954 in Portland, Oregon. He always wanted to be a cartoonist, so in 1980 he goes to Los Angeles. There he worked for the magazine “L.A. Reader”, where he made his first cartoon “Life in Hell” about the one-ear rabbit “Bongo” and his father “Binky”. After this comic he made the serials “The Simpson’s” and “Futurama”
The Simpson’s are a traditional American family which do not get along together and are always getting into trouble. The Simpson’s are a big family, but the most important members are Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. The members are named after members of his own family, his mother Marge, his father Homer, his sisters Lisa and Maggie, and Bart
(the wordplay Bart – brat) with the character of Matt Groening himself and his brother Mark.
- Homer Jay Simpson is 38 years old. He’s the husband of Mage and father of Bart, Lisa and Maggie. He works at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plants as safety inspector. Homer is clumsy, very fat and very lazy. He is also an alcoholic, and is not very smart. Although Homer seems selfish, he does actually care for his family. He is often heard saying "D'oh!" which has become an often used word when things go wrong.
- Marjorie “Marge” Simpson is 36 years old, Homers wife and mother of Bart, Lisa and Maggie. She has no regular job, and is seen as a housewife. She is famous for her very tall blue hair.
- Bartholomew JoJo “Bart” Simpson is 10 years old and calls himself “El Barto” or “Bartman”, Bart is the troublemaker of the family. He’s the son of Homer and Marge, Brother of Lisa and Maggie and visits the fourth grade at Springfield elementary. He enjoys skateboarding, comic books, annoying Lisa and makes prank phone calls to Moe Syszlak.
- Lisa Marie Simpson is 8 years old and daughter of Homer and Marge. She has an older brother – Bart - and a younger sister – Maggie. She visits the second grade at Springfield Elementary. She’s the most intelligent member of the Simpson family. Lisa is a Buddhist, vegetarian, environmental campaigner, plays saxophone and enjoys reading.
- Margaret “Maggie” Simpson is 1 year old and the youngest child of Homer and Marge. Maggie's most well-known feature would be to trip over her clothes and fall on her face while trying to walk, causing a loud smack on the floor.
